HOMEKINETICS | Kinetic/Moving Architecture

HOMEKINETICS specialises in Kinetic/Moving Architecture, opening an entirely new world of possibility.

In the Middle Ages, the castle drawbridge was the first example of kinetic architecture. And today, we can move any large or heavy structure electro-mechanically, in any complex rotating, revolving, elevating or traversing sequence.

With class-leading Ridged-Chain drives and precision control systems, we can now move almost anything. And we guarantee long-life, low-maintenance and energy-efficient systems operation.

RETRACTABLE GLASS ROOF: 12m x 12m, 20 tonnes | Glass, Stainless Steel | Rigid-Chain Drives.

Moving roofs:

This spectacular fully-glazed retractable roof covers the large Courtyard of a Grade 1 listed Georgian House.

Fully bespoke, the roof is engineered from five huge glass and stainless steel arches, which retract over one static arch. At 12m wide by 12m long, and weighing over 20 tonnes, this is a true masterpiece of engineering.

The moving roof transforms the functionality of the Courtyard, allowing for all-weather use and entertainment, under the sun and the stars, and showers too.

MOVING GLASS WALL: 6m x 3m, 900kg, 10° slope | Triple-glazed, Stainless Steel | Rigid-Chain Drives.

Moving walls:

The architect’s vision for this modernist farmhouse was to open the side of the natural stone and zinc-roofed building, to embed it in its rural environment. Built to take in the gentle slope, this building presented more than a few engineering opportunities.

At over 6m wide and 3m tall, this parallelogram-shaped, triple-glazed moving glass wall, weighs in at over 900kg, and whispers up and down a 10-degree incline, to open and close.

Manufactured abroad, due to its size, this bespoke installation is powered with millimetre-accurate drive and control technologies.

A stunning scene in rural seclusion.

GRAND-SASH WINDOWS: 2m x 2.3m, 300kg | Accoya Timber | Rigid-Chain Drive Technology

Grand-sash windows

The other striking feature of this pool house, is the group of six 4.3m tall grand-sash windows, which let the sun stream in, lighting up the Bath stone and Carrara marble interior .

Each triple-glazed moving sash, about 2m wide by 2.3m tall, is manufactured from high-performance Accoya timber near Bath, and weighs in at over 300kg

These windows can be opened independently or simultaneously as a group, from a touchscreen, to suit the user’s requirements.

MOVING NIGHTCLUB FLOOR: 7m x 5m | Stage, Dining & Dance-floor | English Oak | Rigid-Chain Drives.

Moving floors:

This huge vaulted basement was beautifully restored, to create a unique ‘private nightclub’, by the owner of this Grade 1 listed Georgian House.

Late night dinners and dancing, with celebrity artists and DJs, are all now possible, in sound-proofed subterranean splendour.

The client’s remit was to create a multi-functional entertainment space, based around a 7m by 5m moving floor.

In the level position, this English oak floor, is part of the large basement area, and perfect for dinner celebrations.

With bespoke lifting technologies, this floor can be raised into any triple-stage configuration, to suit all performance and artistic requirements.

In the lowered position, the sunken dance-floor transforms the room, allowing dancing and partying into the small hours.

These ‘floor scenes’ are easily controlled from a touchscreen, enabling maximum flexibility of the space over an evening.

MOVING POOL HOUSE FLOOR: 20m x 10m | Carrara Marble | Rigid-Chain Drive Technology.

Moving pool floors:

This neoclassical Bath stone pool house, was built to serve a complementary role as a large entertainment space.

The floor was finished in fine Carrara marble, with a 20m by 10m, central moving floor section, which in the raised position, completes a handsome room, giving little clue to the waters below. A truly beautiful space for celebrations.

When this central floor section is lowered, the pool house transformation is complete, revealing a gently lit marble lined pool.

The pool depth can be set with a touchscreen, to suit the user, whether it’s your morning laps or the children’s birthday party.
